What will each week's rehearsal look like?
Every rehearsal will start with prayer and a unique thought about worship. Because our focus is ministry-related (not just performance), our core values - including worshipping God in ALL that we do - will be reviewed every week.
The children will learn solid vocal technique including posture and breathing and understanding the different parts of their voice. They will also be introduced to concepts such as stage presence and the importance of shining their light. "Harmony" will be introduced to reading music, understanding musical terms, ear training and harmony singing.
A major portion of each rehearsal will be singing and learning music! As we get closer to "Ministry Time", choreography and stage cues will be practiced as well.
What is a "Ministry Moment?"
"Ministry Moments" are the crux of what CWC is all about. In the world, we find that performances become "look at me" moments. At CWC, we hope to teach children that they can help others "look at Jesus" shining through them. Children will be taught throughout the semester to let their lights shine, that they have a unique and special place in this world, and that God wants to use them to share Jesus' love to others. "Ministry Moments" are the times we get to practically do that for other people. Each semester will have at least two outreach events. These will be times that the children go "out into the world" and sing for others, just as Jesus said to us in Acts 1:8. The focus will be sharing Christ and His love through music.
How many children can participate?
To get the maximum value of teaching and excellence in the classroom, each choir will have a maximum of 25 children. If the number of children who register exceeds that number, a separate rehearsal time may be considered to accommodate.
Will there be a costume or other unknown fee?
The Registration Fee will cover the cost of each child's music. Additional props will be purchased by the choir, as well as any sound equipment used. Parents will be advised on a season-to-season basis what the appropriate outreach attire will be.
What if my child is absent from a rehearsal?
We understand there are things that come up in everyone's life that are either beyond our control or of family importance. Please keep in mind that the nature of the learning experience at CWC is cumulative - each lesson will build on the previous week's lesson. If your child is absent due to illness or family event, please notify the director by email or call prior to the rehearsal, so we can be sure all is well. Children who are absent two or more times may be asked to not participate in our Ministry Moments. This is for the good of everyone involved since our choreography and music relies on a group effort. No refund will be given. Call Mrs. Sands at 484-571-6535 or email at [email protected]
How can I, as a parent, be involved?
Depending on your gifting (administration, organizing, praying, communicating, or music) CWC invites your help. At the end of each semester, we may need help organizing a small party or other event Our Mother/Daughter/Mentor Tea will be an event where we will need all the help we can get! We are definitely better TOGETHER. If you are interested in helping, simply mark the appropriate box on the Commitment form you will receive at Orientation.
Things to understand
Just like any art, singing involves both fun and discipline. Children may express excitement about singing (especially when they get to do it for others) but not find it as exciting to practice their music. Rehearsals will be made as fun and engaging as possible. But they will also be work. A parent's support of this can help a child easily get over the "slump" that may occur after the initial excitement wears off and before the "Ministry Moment" happens. An attitude of "we are doing this for others" or "you are letting your light shine" will remind them of the big picture.
What if my child isn't a good singer but loves music?
For the Cherub Choir... This is all about fun, music exposure, and the joy of worship. Your children's brains will be developing, and music is going to help that along! They will be trained to discover their head & chest voices, and every child is welcome!
Community Choirs... In our experience, we have found that every child's musical gifting can improve with practice, a positive environment, and solid teaching. Children who are gifted in music will thrive in this environment and be given opportunities to use their gift to bless others. Children who aren't natural singers will love the ministry focus, fun music, and will find a welcomed place at CWC.
For Harmony...Due to the nature of the group, we encourage parents to enroll girls who enjoy singing and want to strive to excel musically.
